162173 Ryugu (disebut juga 1999 JU3) adalah sebuah asteroid. Asteroid ini merupakan bagian dari asteroid Apollo, yang terletak dekat dengan bumi. Eksentrisitas orbit asteroid ini tercatat sebesar 0.190, sementara magnitudo mutlaknya adalah 19.2.
Pembentukan
Seperti asteroid pada umumnya, asteroid ini terbentuk dari nebula matahari primordial sebagai pecahan planetisimal, sesuatu di nebula matahari muda yang tidak cukup besar untuk berubah menjadi planet.[1]
Eksplorasi
Pada tahun 2014, wahana penjelajah Hayabusa 2 dari agensi luar angkasa Jepang, JAXA, diluncurkan untuk mengeksplorasi asteroid ini dengan cara mengambil sampel dan mengembalikannya ke Bumi.[2] Hayabusa 2 tiba di asteroid ini pada 27 Juni 2018 dan akan melanjutkan misinya selama setengah tahun di asteroid ini sebelum kembali ke Bumi pada tahun 2020.[2]
