Acetobacterium bakii | |
Acetobacterium adalah genus bakteri anaerob gram positif yang berasal dari famili Eubacteriaceae. Nama berasal dari fakta bahwa mereka asetogen, terutama membuat asam asetat sebagai produk sampingan dari metabolisme anaerobik. Sebagian besar spesies dilaporkan dalam genus ini adalah homoasetogen, yaitu semata-mata memproduksi asam asetat sebagai produk sampingan metabolisme mereka. Mereka tidak boleh dikacaukan dengan bakteri asam asetat yang aerobik, gram-negatif alphaproteobacteria dan banyak digunakan untuk memproduksi cuka.
Tipe spesies dari genus ini adalah Acetobacterium woodii.[1] Nama genus, Acetobacterium, dipilih meskipun penggunaan lama dari nama genus yang mirip Acetobacter untuk kelompok utama bakteri asam asetat.
