Acolhua

Acolhua adalah suku bangsa Mesoamerika yang tiba di wilayah Lembah Meksiko sekitar tahun 1200 M.[1] Acolhua adalah kebudayaan yang terkait dengan kebudayaan Mexica dan juga dengan Tepanec, Chalca, Xochimilca, dan lain-lain.

Terdapat kemungkinan bahwa keluarga penguasa Acolhua merupakan keturunan penutur bahasa Otomi dan tidak menuturkan bahasa Nahuatl hingga mereka diperintahkan untuk mulai menuturkan bahasa Nahuatl oleh tlatoani Techotlalatzin.[2]

Acolhua menjadi sekutu Aztek dalam perang melawan Tepanec.[3] Acolhua bermukim di wilayah timur cekungan Meksiko. Ibu kota mereka terletak di Texcoco.[3]
