Belut telan, tilan, sili ( Mastacembelus armatus ), juga dikenal sebagai sili sungai,[1] adalah spesies belut berduri bersirip pari yang termasuk dalam genus Mastacembelus (Scopoli, 1777) [3] dari keluarga Mastacembelidae, dan merupakan fauna asli sungai India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia dan bagian lain di Asia Tenggara . Spesies ini dideskripsikan sebagai Macrognathus armatus oleh Lacepède pada tahun 1800. Nama umum lainnya untuk spesies akuarium populer ini adalah belut duri tutul [4] dan belut duri bintik putih . Spesies ini tidak hanya menjadi ikan akuarium yang populer tetapi juga sebagai ikan konsumsi di negara asalnya.[1][5]
Keterangan
Mastacembelus armatus adalah ikan besar memanjang yang memiliki tubuh seperti ular tanpa sirip perut . Sirip dubur dan punggungnya memanjang dan terhubung ke sirip ekor . Sirip punggung didahului oleh banyak duri.[6] Bagian belakang berwarna krem gelap sedangkan kepalanya berwarna krem \ u200b\u200bperak. Warna tubuh coklat kusam dan perut berwarna coklat muda. Tubuh juga dapat ditandai dengan pola melingkar coklat. Tubuhnya juga memiliki satu hingga tiga garis zigzag longitudinal yang lebih gelap yang terhubung untuk membentuk pola retikulasi berbeda yang terbatas pada dua pertiga bagian dorsal tubuh. Mata memiliki garis-garis coklat yang menjalar ke samping melalui mereka.[1][5]
Mastacembelus armatus dapat mencapai hingga 36" (91 cm) di habitat aslinya tetapi biasanya tidak melebihi 20" (51 cm) di penangkaran.[1][5]
Meski penampilannya mirip belut, Mastacembelus armatus tidak dianggap sebagai belut sejati .[6]
