Benedict Richard Pierce Macintyre (lahir 25 Desember 1963) adalah seorang penulis, pengulas,[1] dan kolumnis asal Inggris untuk surat kabar The Times. Kolumnya meliputi berbagai topik, mulai dari urusan saat ini hingga kontroversi sejarah.

Kehidupan awal

Macintyre adalah putra tertua dari Angus Donald Macintyre (meninggal tahun 1994), Fellow dan Tutor dalam Sejarah Modern di Magdalen College, Oxford (terpilih menjadi Principal Hertford College, Oxford sebelum meninggal dalam kecelakaan mobil), penulis karya ilmiah pertama tentang nasionalis Irlandia Daniel O'Connell, editor umum dari seri Oxford Historical Monographs dari tahun 1971 hingga 1979, editor The English Historical Review dari tahun 1978 hingga 1986, dan Ketua Dewan Pengawas Magdalen College School dari tahun 1987 hingga 1990. Ibunya bernama Joanna, putri Sir Richard Musgrave Harvey, 2nd Baronet dan keturunan Berkeley Paget. Nenek buyutnya adalah keturunan James Netterville, 7th Viscount Netterville.[2]

Macintyre menempuh pendidikan di Abingdon School dan St John's College, Cambridge, dan lulus dengan gelar sejarah pada tahun 1985.[3]
