Bergen op Zoom (pelafalan dalam bahasa Belanda: [ˌbɛrɣə(n) ɔp ˈsoːm] ⓘ), disebut juga sebagai Berrege dalam dialek lokal, adalah sebuah gemeente di barat daya Belanda. Kota ini terletak di provinsi Brabant Utara, di perbatasan provinsi dengan Zeeland. Pada bulan Januari 2021, munisipalitas ini memiliki populasi sebesar 67.514 jiwa.
Etimologi
Kota ini dibangun di atas pertemuan dua jenis tanah: tanah berpasir dan tanah liat laut. Tanah berpasir ini mendorong tanah liat laut, terakumulasi dan membentuk bukit selama beberapa abad. Orang-orang menyebut bukit-bukit itu Brabantse Wal, yang secara harfiah berarti "benteng Brabant". Zoom merujuk pada batas benteng ini dan bergen dalam bahasa Belanda berarti gunung atau bukit. Nama itu tidak ada hubungannya dengan kanal kecil Zoom, yang kemudian dibangun melalui Bergen op Zoom.
Kota Bergen op Zoom
