Bernus
Bernus (bahasa Berber: ⴰⴱⵔⵏⵓⵙ, bahasa Arab: برنس) yang juga disebut "barnus", atau "bornos"; dari kata Berber "abernus" adalah sebuah jubah panjang yang terbuat dari kain wol, biasanya berwarna putih, yang dikenakan oleh suku Berber. Di Afrika Utara, warna bernus berwarna putih, beige atau coklat tua. Bernus putih dipakai saat acara-acara penting dan oleh orang-orang dengan jabatan tinggi.[1]
Burnous dalam budaya lain
Bernus menjadi bagian khas dari seragam kavaleri Spahi dalam Tentara Afrika Prancis; direkrut ke Aljazair, Maroko dan Tunisia. Busana tersebut juga terkadang secara resmi dipakai oleh para perwira atau prajurit dari unit lainnya di Afrika Utara. Bernus putih masih menjadi bagian dari seragam pawai dari salah satu resimen spahi yang masih tersisa dari Tentara Prancis: Resimen Spahi ke-1.
Nama lain dari burnous meliputi albornoz, sbernia, sberna, dan bernusso.
