Celestial Pictures adalah sebuah perusahaan berbasis hiburan yang berfokus pada film yang Berbahasa Asia dan konten, yang meliputi produksi, agregasi, distribusi, dan saluran televisi. [1]Perusahaan ini berkantor pusat di Hong Kong, dan dimiliki oleh Astro Overseas Limited.[2]
Celestial Pictures memiliki Shaw Brothers Film Library, yang merupakan salah satu koleksi film Tiongkok terbesar di dunia. Perpustakaan ini terdiri dari lebih dari 760 film layar lebar, termasuk The Five Venoms, Hex, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, One-Armed Swordsman, King Boxer, dan The Flying Guillotine. Film-film ini telah direstorasi secara digital untuk distribusi global.[3]
Sejarah
Perusahaan ini membeli perpustakaan film Shaw Brothers pada tahun 2000[4] yang saat itu bernama "East Asia Filmed Entertainment Ltd" dan dimiliki oleh grup media Malaysia Astro Holdings Sdn Bhd. Astro Holdings pada gilirannya dikendalikan oleh Usaha Tegas Sdn. Bhd, sebuah perusahaan induk investasi Malaysia.
Pada tahun 2001, di bawah nama Cina 星藝映畫, perusahaan ini memproduksi dua film: Comic King (漫畫↩風雲) dan Stowaway (驚天大逃亡). Ia menggunakan nama Cina saat ini 天映娛樂 pada tahun 2002.[butuh rujukan]
Operasi saluran televisi Celestial meliputi Celestial Movies, Celestial Classic Movies, dan WATA, sebuah saluran infotainment Tiongkok. Selain itu, film-film Shaw Bros yang didistribusikan oleh Celestial ditayangkan di Amerika di El Rey Network sebagai bagian dari blok "Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Tuesdays".
