Cerek besar (bahasa Latin = Pluvialis squatarola) adalah spesies burung dari famili Charadriidae, dari genus Pluvialis. Burung ini merupakan jenis burung pemakan invertebrata yang memiliki habitat di gosong lumpur dan pasir di daerah pasang surut.
Ciri-ciri
Cerek besar memiliki tubuh berukuran sedang (28 cm). Burung air bertubuh gemuk, paruh pendek dan kuat. Tubuh bagian atas abu-abu kecoklatan. Tubuh bagian bawah keputih-putihan. Saat terbang tungging dan bagian sisi atas ekor putih. Ada garis putih pada sayap. Bercak hitam di ketiak pada pangkal sayap yang putih. Iris coklat, paruh hitam, tungkai abu-abu. Perbedaan dengan Cerek kernyut: ukuran tubuh dan paruh lebih besar, warna lebih abu-abu, tidak kuning keemasan.[2] Mencari makan dalam kelompok kecil.
Penyebaran
- Seluruh dunia.
- Migran: Sumatra, Kalimantan, Jawa, Bali, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua.
