Charlotte Speedway adalah lokasi pertama digelarnya lomba NASCAR Strictly Stock (sekarang Sprint Cup) pada 19 Juni 1949. Sebelumnya Daytona Beach Road Course mengadakan lomba pertama yang disetujui oleh NASCAR pada tahun 1948. Trek ini beberapa mil timur dari NASCAR Hall of Fame.
