David dari Ashby

David daru Ashby (hidup sekitar tahun 1260 – 1275) adalah seorang frater Dominikan kelahiran Inggris yang dikirim dari kota Tanah Suci Acre kepada penguasa Mongol Hulagu pada 1260, oleh legatus Kepausan Thomas Agni de Lentino.[1] Ia singgah selama 15 tahun di antara orang-orang Mongol dan baru kembali dari Iran pada 1274.

David dari Ashby adalah anggota kedubes Mongol untuk Konsili Lyon Kedua pada 1274, yang dikirim oleh Abaqa. Kedubes tersebut datang pada 5 Juli 1274. David ditemani oleh juru tulis Rychaldus, yang melayani Mongol, dan 14 perwakilan Mongol. Pemimpin Mongol tersebut dibaptis dalam kesempatan tersebut pada 16 Juli.[2]

David dari Ashby menulis buku Les fais des Tatars ("Fakta-fakta tentang Tartar") yang membahas budaya Tatar dan organisasi dan disiplin militer menonjol mereka.
