Degenerasi

Degenerasi merupakan suatu perubahan keadaan secara fisika dan kimia dalam sel, jaringan, atau organ yang bersifat menurunkan efisiensinya.[1] Degenerasi dapat diakibatkan dari penuaan dan disebabkan oleh penyakit. Proses penuaan dapat terjadi akibat dari paparan radikal bebas.[2] Penyebab lainnya yang dapat menyebabkan degenerasi adalah pelukaan, berkurangkan persediaan darah, keracunan seperti konsumsi alkohol, atau kekurangan vitamin.[1] Degenerasi dapat menyebabkan berbagai penyakit yang disebut sebagai penyakit degeneratif.[1] Penyakit tersebut dapat terbagi atas beberapa bagian organ seperti:

  1. Penyakit Alzheimer.[1]
  2. Penyakit pada neuron motorik.[1]
  3. Penyakit Hutington.[1]
  4. Penyakit Parkinson.[1]
  1. Atrofi optik.[1]
  2. Degenerasi makula seperti Penyakit Stargardt.[1]
  1. Osteoartitis.[1]
  1. Distrofi otot.[1]

Pengobatan

Pada banyak kasus, hanya sedikit yang dapat memperlambat degenerasi, tetapi lebih sering penggunaan obat-obatan untuk meringakan gejalanya.[1]
