Pada abad ke-14, invasi oleh Kesultanan memulihkan negara bagian Hoysala, dan distrik tersebut menjadi bagian dari Kekaisaran Wijayanagara.[1]

Menurut sensus penduduk India 2011 pada distrik Hassan, terdapat 1.630.814 umat Hindu, 120.011 Muslim, 15.611 umat Kristen, 5.820 umat Jain, 623 umat Buddha, 289 umat Sikh, 3 memilih agama lain dan 3.250 memilih tidak menjawab.[3]
