Empat benua

Empat benua, ditambah Australia, yang ditambahkan belakangan.

Bangsa Eropa pada abad ke-16 membagi dunia menjadi empat benua: Afrika, Amerika, Asia dan Eropa.[1] Setiap empat benua tampak mewakili kuadran dunia—Eropa di utara, Asia di timur, Afrika di selatan dan Amerika di barat. Pembagian tersebut timbul pada zaman Renaisans, yang juga membagi dunia menjadi empat musim, empat unsur klasik, empat mata angin, empat kebajikan klasik, dll.
