Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer

Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) adalah teleskop berbasis ruang dioperasikan oleh Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. FUSE diluncurkan pada roket Delta II pada tanggal 24 Juni 1999, sebagai bagian dari program Origins NASA. FUSE mendeteksi cahaya di bagian jauh ultraviolet dari spektrum elektromagnetik, antara 90,5-119,5 nanometer, yang sebagian besar tidak teramati oleh teleskop lain. Misi utamanya adalah untuk mengkarakterisasi deuterium yang universal dalam upaya untuk belajar tentang waktu pengolahan bintang deuterium yang tersisa dari Big Bang. FUSE berada dalam orbit Bumi rendah, sekitar 760 km (410 nm) di ketinggian, dengan kemiringan 25 derajat dan hanya kurang dari satu periode orbit 100 menit. Penunjukanya Explorer 77.
Sebuah pengumuman dibuat pada tanggal 6 September itu karena kontrol yang baik diperlukan untuk melakukan misinya telah hilang, misi FUSE akan dihentikan.
