Gerin oil

Gerin oil atau geriniol adalah sebuah obat-obatan fiksi yang dipakai sebagai alat untuk mengkritik agama dalam artikel-artikel yang ditulis oleh Richard Dawkins. Kata tersebut adalah sebuah anagram dari "religion" (agama).

Artikel pertama, Gerin Oil,^[1] terbit dalam publikasi humanisme sekuler Amerika Serikat, Free Inquiry, pada Desember 2003 (Volume 24, No. 1). Istilah tersebut dipopulerisasikan dalam sebuah artikel berjudul Opiate of the Masses.^[2] Artikel tersebut mendeskripsikan sebuah obat-obatan ilegal berbahaya "Gerin Oil" atau "Geriniol." Dawkins menyatakan dampaknya bertanggung jawab atas tindak kekerasan dalam sejarah seperti serangan 11 September, pembantaian penduduk asli Amerika Selatan oleh para conquistador, dan Pengadilan Penyihir Salem.
