Govindbhai Shroff adalah pejuang kemerdekaan yang memimpin gerakan melawan Nizam Hyderabad saat Kampanye Hyderabad 1948. Akibatnya, kawasan Marathwada lepas dari Negara Bagian Hyderabad pada 17 September 1948. Pada 1966, orang-orang menanggapi seruan Shroff dengan ikut serta dalam mogok makan, morcha, rail roko, bandh dan bentuk protes lainnya untuk menekanlebar jalur kereta api.[1][2]
