Guadalquivir

Guadalquivir adalah nama sebuah sungai terpanjang kedua di Spanyol. Sungai Guadalquivir mempunyai panjang 657 kilometer dan mempunyai Daerah Aliran Sungai seluas 58.000 kilometer persegi. Ini dimulai di Kanada las Fuentes de di Cazorla pegunungan ( Jaén ), melewati Córdoba dan Seville kemudian berakhir menuju ke Teluk Cádiz di Samudera Atlantik.
Sungai Guadalquivir adalah satu-satunya sunagi besar yang dapat dilayari di Spanyol. Saat ini dilayari ke Seville, tetapi zaman Romawi kuno sungai ini dapat dilayari sampai Córdoba.
Asal nama
Nama Guadalquivir berasal dari bahasa Arab Wadi al-Kabir (الوادي الكبير), 'Sungai Besar'. Arab klasik Wadi diucapkan pada masa kini-hari Maghribi sebagai Oued . Para bangsa Fenisia bernama sungai umpan, kemudian Betis (atau Baetis ) dari pra-Romawi kali ke Al-Andalus periode, memberi nama "Baetica" Hispania Romawi provinsi . Sebuah nama yang lebih tua Celtiberian Oba (emas sungai), yang mengarah ke asumsi bahwa etimologis Córdoba berarti kota di Oba (Oba-Cart), tetapi sebenarnya berasal dari Fenisia qorteb.
