Halford John Mackinder (lahir pada tahun 1861) adalah seorang berkebangsaan Inggris yang mempunyai keahlian dalam bidang geografi, geopolitik, dan geostrategi.[1]

Biografi

Halford dilahirkan di Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, Inggris.[1] Ia adalah anak seorang dokter, dan belajar di Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Epsom College dan Christ Church.[1] Di Christ Church, ia mulai mempelajari zoologi yang dididik oleh Henry Moseley Nottidge.[1] Ia mempelajari studi sejarah mengenai teori evolusi.[1]

Karier

Pada tahun 1887, Halford menerbitkan artikel On the Scope and Methods of Geography, sebuah buku bertopik geografi.[2] Beberapa bulan kemudian, ia diangkat sebagai presiden di Oxford University.[2] Pada tahun 1892, ia menjadi presiden pertama di Universitas Extension College dan pada tahun berikutnya, ia mendirikan Geografis Association.[2]
