Helicobacter adalah genus bakteri Gram negatif yang memiliki bentuk heliks karakteristik. Mereka awalnya dianggap anggota dari genus Campylobacter, tetapi pada tahun 1989, Goodwin et al. menerbitkan alasan yang cukup untuk membenarkan nama genus baru Helicobacter.[1] Genus Helicobacter berisi sekitar 35 spesies.[2][3][4]
