Hipaspistai
Hipaspistai (bahasa Yunani: Ὑπασπιστής "pemegang tameng" atau "tertutup tameng") adalah seorang penombak, pasukan bersenjata atau "pembawa tameng". Dalam Homer, Deiphobos menyebut "ὑπασπίδια" atau di bawah tutupan tameng.[1] Pada zaman Herodotus (426 SM), kata tersebut memiliki arti prajurit status tinggi karena secara kuat disugestikan oleh Herodotus dalam salah satu penggunaan terawalnya yang diketahui.[2]
