Hiu monas (Hemipristis elongata) merupakan salah satu jenis hiu yang termasuk dalam famili Hemigaleidae. Spesies ini dikenal dengan nama snaggletooth shark. Nama hiu monas merupakan nama lokal di Jawa.[1]
Deskripsi
Spesies hiu ini memiliki spirakel kecil di belakang mata dan celah insang yang lebarnya lebih dari dua kali panjang mata. Siripnya lancip melengkung. Ketika mulut tertutup, gigi mencuat keluar. Dari arah bawah, moncong terlihat bulat tumpul. Panjang tubuh berkisar antara 45 - 110 cm.[1]
Distribusi dan Habitat
Spesies hiu ini termasuk dalam jenis ikan demersal yang umum ditemui di perairan tropis dengan kisaran kedalaman 1 - 130 m.[2] Dapat ditemukan di perairan Laut Jawa, perairan selatan Jawa, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Selat Malaka, Laut Cina Selatan, Laut Natuna, dan sebelah barat, timur, serta selatan Kalimantan.[1]
Status
Berdasarkan Daftar Merah IUCN, spesies hiu monas ini diklasifikasikan ke dalam VU (vulnerable atau rentan) karena banyaknya eksploitasi terutama di wilayah Indo-Pasifik.[3]
