Hutia desmarest atau hutia kuba (Capromys pilorides) adalah sebuah spesies mamalia mirip tikus bertubuh bayak yang hanya ditemukan di Kuba dan pulau-pulau terdekatnya. Tumbuh hingga sekitar 60 cm (2 ft), umumnya hewan ini hidup berpasangan dan memakan buah, daun, kulit kayu dan terkadang hewan kecil. Spesies ini menjadi jenis hutia (subfamili Capromyinae) terbesar, yaitu sejenis hewan pengerat asli Karibia yang sebagian besar terancam atau sudah punah. Hutia desmarest terebar luas di sebarannya, meski satu subspesies (C. p. lewisi) yang berasal dari Kepulauan Cayman punah tak lama setelah kolonisasi Eropa pada 1500an..[2][3]

Deskripsi

Panjang kepala-tubuh hewan ini adalah 31–60 cm (12–24 in), dengan ekor sepanjang 14–29 cm (5,5–11,4 in), dan bobot 2,8–8,5 kg (6,2–18,7 pon).[4] Bulunya padat dan kasar, serta memanjang hingga ujung ekor.
