Imprimi potest

Sebuah imprimi potest, sebuah nihil obstat dan sebuah imprimatur (oleh Richard Cushing) dalam sebuah buku yang diterbitkan oleh Random House pada tahun 1953. Buku ini adalah terjemahan Bahasa Inggris oleh Louis J. Gallagher, S.J. dari buku De Christiana expeditione apud Sinas karya Matteo Ricci, S.J. dan Nicolas Trigault, S.J.

Imprimi potest atau imprimi permittitur (Bahasa Latin untuk "ini bisa dicetak") adalah sebuah pernyataan oleh seorang kepala ordo/tarekat Gereja Katolik Roma yang merupakan pimpinan dari seorang anggota ordo yang menulis sebuah buku yang mempertanyakan perihal agama atau moral bahwa buku tersebut boleh dicetak.[1] Para pimpinan tersebut mengeluarkan pernyataan ini hanya setelah para petugas sensor yang menyelidiki buku tersebut menganugerahkan nihil obstat, sebuah pernyataan bahwa tidak ada yang keberatan atas penerbitan buku tersebut. Persetujuan terakhir kemudian diberikan lewat imprimatur ("biarkan dicetak") oleh uskup di wilayah penulis itu tinggal atau uskup di mana buku itu dicetak.[2]
