Islam merupakan agama resmi terbesar kedua di Swedia setelah Kristen, dengan jumlah penganut sekitar 500.000 jiwa atau 5% dari populasi Swedia.

Sejarah

Sekitar abad ke-18, Swedia bersekutu dengan Kesultanan Utsmaniyah. Hal ini—ditambah lagi fakta bahwa Raja Swedia Carl XII berada di bawah perlindungan Ottoman pada tahun 1709-1714—membuat Swedia memberi kebebasan beragama kepada umat Islam. Pada masa itu banyak disertasi mengenai Islam di universitas-universitas di Swedia. Saat ini, jumlah Muslim yang besar dapat ditemukan di Malmo dan Stockholm yang memiliki persentase muslim di atas 10% dari populasi kota.[1]
