James Ussher (nama keluarga juga ditulis Usher; 4 Januari 1581 – 21 Maret 1656) adalah seorang Uskup agung Gereja Anglikan di Irlandia.[1] Dia dikenal karena usahanya dalam menyusun suatu daftar kronologi Alkitab.[2]

Awalnya Alkitab yang sekarang ini tidak seperti itu urutannya.[1] Namun, James Ussher pun melakukan penyusunan terhadap Kronologi kitab-kitab tersebut.[1] Kronologi tersebut dimulai dengan Kitab Kejadian pada tahun 4004 SM.[2] Penanggalan ini pun diteruskan dalam edisi-edisi Authorized Version" (AV) atau "versi Raja James" (King James Version/KJV).[2]

James Ussher lahir di kota Dublin, Irlandia pada 4 Januari 1581.[2] Dia meninggal dunia pada 21 Maret 1656.[2] Dia berasal dari keluarga Anglo Irlandia.[2] Ibu dari ayahnya adalah seorang perlemen Irlandia.[2] Ayahnya bernama Arnold Ussher, seorang juru tulis; dan ibunya bernama Margaret Stanihurst.[2] Dia pernah menjadi pendeta di Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland pada tahun 1625 sampai tahun 1656.[2]

Dia merupakan sarjana yang produktif.[2] Karyanya yang terkenal adalah penyusunan kronologi Alkitab.[2] Dia menentukan penanggalan penciptaan pada hari Sabtu, 23 Oktober 4004 Sebelum Masehi.[2] Penanggalan itu berdasarkan kalender Julian.[2]
