Joseph Nye
Joseph Samuel Nye, Jr. (19 Januari 1937 – 6 Mei 2025) adalah salah satu penggagas teori Hubungan Internasional bersama dengan Robert Keohane mengenai Neoliberalisme dalam hubungan internasional. Bersama Keohane, ia mengembangkan konsep kekuatan asimetris dan saling ketergantungan kompleks yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana negara-negara saling terhubung dan saling bergantung sama lain dalam sistem yang kompleks. Ia juga mempopulerkan istilah soft power dan smart power yang berpengaruh dalam kajian diplomasi dan kebijakan luar negeri.
Nye memulai kariernya sebagai dosen di Harvard Kennedy School pada 1964 setelah lulus program doktoral. Ia juga menjabat sebagai dosen di Universitas Cambridge dan beberapa universitas lain. Pada masa pemerintahan Presiden Jimmy Carter dan Bill Clinton, Nye dipercaya memegang berbagai posisi kunci terkait keamanan dan kebijakan luar negeri Amerika Serikat. Nye dipercaya sebagai dekan Harvard Kennedy School sejak 1995 hingga 2004.[1][2]
Pada tahun 2005, Nye termasuk dalam 10 orang paling berpengaruh dalam hubungan internasional di Amerika Serikat.[3] Nye meninggal di usia 88 tahun pada 6 Mei 2025.[2]
