Kemotaksis

Kemotaksis (bahasa Inggris: chemotaxis) adalah gerakan dari sel tubuh, bakteri atau organisme sebagai respon akibat terpapar zat kimiawi tertentu [1] dalam lingkungannya. Kemotaksis merupakan hal yang sangat penting bagi mikroorganisme untuk menemukan makanannya, seperti glukosa dengan bergerak menuju konsentrasi tertinggi molekul makanan, atau bergerak menjauhi zat toksik, seperti fenol. Pada organisme multiselular, kemotaksis merupakan proses awal yang sangat penting pada fertilisasi dan fase perkembangan, seperti migrasi neuron dan juga limfosit.

Kemampuan sel untuk melakukan kemotaksis akan menurun jauh pada saat terjadi proses metastasis, seperti yang terjadi pada kanker.
