Krismasi terdiri dari sakramen aau misteri dalam gereja-gereja Ortodoks Timur, Ortodoks Oriental dan Katolik Timur serta dalam ritus inisiasi Gereja Asiria Timur. Sakraman tersebut lebih dikenal di Gereja Barat sebagai penguatan, meskipun sejumlah bahasa seperti Italia, Malta dan Portugis masing-masing biasanya memakai istilah cresima, griżma (tal-isqof)[1][2] dan crisma alih-alih confermazione, konferma atau confirmação.
Istilah tersebut dipakai karena melibatkan perminyakan penerima sakramen dengan krisma (minyak suci), yang menurut kepercayaan Gereja Timur, disucikan dan diperkenalkan oleh para rasul kepada seluruh imam untuk dipakai sebagai pengganti penumpangan tangan oleh para rasul.[3]
