Lepismatidae adalah sebuah famili serangga nirsayap primitif dengan sekitar 340 spesies yang telah dideskripsikan.[1] Famili ini mencakup dua anggota yang paling familiar dari ordo Zygentoma: gegat (Lepisma saccharinum) dan gegat api (Thermobia domestica). Kelompok ini menjadi salah satu dari lima famili pada ordo Zygentoma.
Lepismatidae berupa serangga pipih yang panjang, sebagian besar di antaranya pebangkai. Abdomennya biasanya tertutup oleh sisik kecil dan berujung pada tiga "ekor" dengan panjang yang kurang lebih sama. Mata majemuknya kecil dan terpisah-pisah.
Mereka umumnya hidup di lingkungan hangat da lembab, termasuk di dalam rumah. Mereka menghindari cahaya.[2]
