Mashable dirintis oleh Pete Cashmore di rumahnya di Aberdeen, Skotlandia, pada bulan Juli 2005. Time mengakui Mashable sebagai satu dari 25 blog terbaik di Internet pada tahun 2009.[10] Mashable dijuluki sebagai "toko serbaada" untuk media sosial.[11] Per November 2015, Mashable memiliki lebih dari enam juta pengikut Twitter dan 3 juta penggemar Facebook.
