Mesin kilat
Mesin kilat (bahasa Inggris: lightning machine) adalah sebuah perangkat efek khusus yang digunakan dalam industri film untuk mensimulasikan rupa serangan petir atau kilatan cahaya.[1][2][3] Mesin kilat merupakan sejenis perangkat yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan kesan cuaca, pemandangan luar ruangan, dan fenomena alam lainnya. Perangkat-perangkat yang fungsinya sejenis dengan mesin kilat meliputi mesin kabut, mesin angin, dan menara badai.[4] Perangkat-perangkat ini juga digunakan dalam pertunjukan langsung di beberapa bioskop,[5] dan dalam pameran sains populer.[6][7] Beberapa laporan menyebutkan bahwa mesin kilat membutuhkan sejumlah besar listrik, yang menyebabkan pengurasan daya lampu yang cukup besar.[8] Pernah terjadi insiden ketika kilatan cahaya yang dihasilkan mesin ini sangat besar sampai-sampai disalahartikan sebagai panggilan minta tolong gawat oleh petugas pemadam kebakaran.[9]
Salah satu bentuk mesin kilat paling awal tercatat di Yunani kuno. Sebagai contoh, daftar perlengkapan panggung yang dijelaskan oleh Julius Pollux dalam Onomasticon-nya mengandung keraunoskopeion, yaitu mesin kilat.[10]
