Dalam bidang taksonomi, Methanobacteria adalah sebuah kelas yang merupakan bagian dari filum Euryarchaeota.[1] Beberapa kelas di dalam filum Euryarchaeota tergolong sebagai metanogen, dan Methanobacteria adalah salah satunya.
Penerapan
Methanobacteria dapat dimanfaatkan untuk proses konversi biomassa dan juga produksi energi melalui proses anaerobic digestion (AD).[2] Dengan ini Methanobacteria dapat digunakan untuk membantu proses pengelolaan limbah dan mengurangi polusi udara yang diakibatkan oleh pembakaran sampah.[3]
