Mleccha

Mleccha (dari bahasa Sanskerta Weda: म्लेच्छ ; mleccha; yang berarti "biadab") adalah istilah untuk orang-orang yang bukan penduduk asli India, apapun ras dan warna kulitnya.[1] Istilah itu juga muncul dalam kitab Hindu Shrimadbhagawatam, mengacu kepada bangsa barbar[2] atau kaum terbuang yang memakan daging.[3]

Secara struktur, istilah ini bukanlah bahasa Indo-Iran asli, sehingga tampaknya merupakan kata serapan dari etnonim orang non-Arya yang disebut demikian.[4] Asko Parpola berspekulasi bahwa istilah ini terkait dengan Meluhha, nama mitra perdagangan Sumeria pada zaman perunggu, yang sementara ini diidentifikasi sebagai peradaban Lembah sungai Indus.
