Myctophiformes adalah sebuah ordo ikan bersirip kipas yang hanya terdiri dari dua famili ikan laut dalam, terutama ikan lentera (Myctophidae) yang sangat melimpah.[1] Nama latinnya berasal dari kata dalam bahasa Yunani Kuno yakni μυκτήρ (myktér atau "hidung") dan ὄφῖς (óphis atau "ular") + kata Latin forma ("bentuk luar"). Dinamakan dari myktér dan óphis dikarenakan ciri fisiknya yang panjang, ramping, dan berkepala berat.[2]
