NS Savannah

NS Savannah adalah kapal dagang bertenaga nuklir pertama. Kapal ini dibangun pada akhir 1950-an dengan biaya $46,9 juta (termasuk reaktor nuklir dan inti bahan bakar senilai $28,3 juta) dan diluncurkan pada 21 Juli 1959. Kapal ini didanai olehbadan-badan pemerintah Amerika Serikat. Savannah adalah proyek demonstrasi untuk potensi penggunaan energi nuklir.[1][2]

Kapal itu dinamai SS Savannah, kapal uap pertama yang melintasi samudra Atlantik. Dia beroperasi antara tahun 1962 dan 1972 sebagai salah satu dari hanya empat kapal kargo bertenaga nuklir yang pernah dibangun. (Pemecah es Soviet yang diluncurkan pada 5 Desember 1957 Lenin, adalah kapal sipil bertenaga nuklir pertama.)[3][4][5][6][7][8]

Savannah dinonaktifkan pada tahun 1971 dan setelah beberapa perpindahan ditambatkan di Dermaga 13 Terminal Kelautan Kanton di Baltimore, Maryland, sejak tahun 2008.
