Neokatastrofisme

Semburan sinar gamma mungkin telah mempengaruhi munculnya kehidupan cerdas di alam semesta.

Neokatastrofisme adalah hipotesis yang menyatakan bahwa peristiwa pemusnah kehidupan seperti semburan sinar gamma telah bertindak sebagai mekanisme regulasi galaksi di Bima Sakti setelah munculnya kehidupan kompleks di zona laik huni.[1][2][3] Neokatastrofisme merupakan salah satu penjelasan dari paradoks Fermi sebagai mekanisme yang akan menunda munculnya makhluk cerdas di galaksi terdekat. Hipotesis ini juga memberikan jawaban dan penjelasan mengapa sejauh ini belum ada bentuk kehidupan cerdas lain yang terdeteksi oleh manusia.
