Nama kota ini, « Ros », ialah singkatan dari « Ros Mhic Treoin », yang berarti hutan anak Treon.
Kota ini dipersaudarakan dengan Newcastle, County Down, Republik Irlandia, Hartford, Connecticut, Amerika Serikat, dan Moncoutant, Deux-Sèvres, Prancis.
