Nol mutlak

Nol kelvin (−273.15 ° C) didefinisikan sebagai nol mutlak.

Nol mutlak atau nol absolut adalah suhu terendah yang mungkin terjadi. Pada suhu nol mutlak ini, molekul tidak bergerak (relatif terhadap molekul lain secara keseluruhan). Berada pada temperatur yang rendah memiliki beberapa konsekuensi termodinamika, contohnya, pada nol absolut semua gerakan molekular tidak berhenti tetapi tidak memiliki energi yang cukup untuk berpindah ke sistem lain. Oleh karena itu, dapat dikatakan bahwa pada temperatur nol mutlak, energi molekular bernilai minimal.

Titik nol pada skala temperatur termodinamika di seperti skala Kelvin, dan skala Rankine di set pada nilai nol mutlak.
