Dorze adalah kelompok etnis dan komunitas kecil yang mendiami Dataran Tinggi Gamo di selatan Etiopia. Mereka berbicara bahasa Gamo, dialek bahasa Afroasiatik.

Populasi

Menurut Ethnologue, Dorze berjumlah 29.000 orang (sensus 1994), 9.910 di antaranya adalah satu bahasa.[1]

Mereka terutama tinggal di bagian selatan negara itu, meskipun beberapa telah bermigrasi ke Addis Ababa dan daerah lain. Banyak yang tinggal di desa dekat kota Chencha dan Arba Minch.

Agama

Orang Dorze awalnya menganut agama tradisional Afrika. Sebagian besar adalah anggota Gereja Tewahedo Ortodoks Etiopia.[2][3]

Budaya

Menenun adalah profesi utama bagi sejumlah Dorze. Tekstil tradisional Dorze berwarna-warni.[4][5] Mereka dikenal karena pondok tenun tradisional mereka yang terbuat dari bambu lokal.[6] Gubuk itu bisa bertahan hingga 80 tahun.[2] Musik vokal multi-bagian polifonik mereka menampilkan penggunaan hocket yang canggih.
