Orang Sabelia

Orang Sabelia adalah sebuah etnonim kolektif dari sekelompok bangsa atau suku Italia yang menghuni Italia tengah dan selatan pada masa kebangkitan Roma.[1] Nama tersebut mula-mula diterapkan oleh Niebuhr[2] dan meliputi Sabines, Marsi, Marrucini dan Vestini. Pliny dalam satu karya berkata bahwa Samnites juga disebut Sabelli,[3] dan ini dikonfirmasikan oleh Strabo.[4] Istilah Sabellus juga ditemukan dalam Livy dan penulis Latin lainnya, sebagai bentuk adjektif untuk Samnite, meskipun tak pernah menjadi nama bangsa;[5] namun juga sering dipakai, khususnya oleh para penyair, singkatnya sebagai sinonim untuk adjektif Sabine.[6]
