P43

p43 adalah faktor transkripsi di dalam matriks mitokondria yang berfungsi sebagai pencerap hormon T3. Saat teraktivasi T3, p43 akan menstimulasi transkripsi dan sintesis protein di dalam mitokondria, meningkatkan suhu tubuh dan memungkinkan diferensiasi mioblas, bahkan, pada sel CV1, ekspresi genetik p43 menstimulasi biogenesis mitokondria dan aktivitas rantai pernapasan.[1]

Overekspresi p43 pada otot lurik, pada awalnya akan meningkatkan massa mitokondrial sebagai akibat dari peningkatan aktivitas mitokondria, namun setelah itu, dapat terjadi penurunan massa DNA mitokondrial akibat terinduksinya stress oksidatif oleh peroksidasi lipid dan oksidasi protein, sehingga menyebabkan atropi pada sel otot.[2] Overekspresi tersebut dapat diinduksi oleh aktin.
