Peter Michael Blau (7 Februari 1918 – 12 Maret 2002) adalah seorang Sosiolog dan pemikir yang berasal dari Austria. Ia lahir di Wina, Austria, 7 Februari 1918.[1] Ia bermigrasi ke Amerika Serikat tahun 1939 dan menjadi warga Amerika Serikat tahun 1943.[1]

Pendidikan

Pada tahun 1942 ia mendapatkan ijazah sarjana muda dari universitas yang tidak terlalu terkenal yaitu Elmhurst College di Elmhurst, Illonois.[1] Pendidikannya terhenti sejenak karena terjadinya Perang Dunia II, dan ia menjalani dinas militer di Angkatan Bersenjata Amerika Serikat dan berhasil mendapatkan medali bintang perunggu. Setelah perang usai, ia kembali ke bangku kuliah dan menyelesaikan pendidikannya, dengan diraihnya gelar doktor dari Universitas Columbia pada tahun 1952.[1]

Kemudian, ia pindah untuk mengajar di Universitas Chicago pada tahun 1953-1970.[2] Pada tahun 1970 ia kembali ke Columbia University, di mana ia melanjutkan mengajar sampai tahun 1988. Dari tahun 1988 sampai 2000 ia mengajar sebagai profesor di University of North Carolina, disana ia juga mengajar dengan istrinya yaitu Judith Blau.[3]
