Philanthidae adalah salah satu famili tawon terbesar pada superfamili Apoidea, dengan 1167 spesies dalam 8 genera, kebanyakan darinya masuk kedalam genus Cerceris. Famili ini terdiri dari tawon predator soliter, masing-masing genus memiliki mangsanya sendiri.[1][2][3] Betina dewasa bersarang di galian-galian bawah tanah.
