Pistol otomatis
Pistol otomatis (bahasa Inggris: machine pistol) adalah pistol mitraliur yang berupa pistol.[1] Pistol otomatis diisi secara otomatis menggunakan magazen box. Pistol ini memilik kemampuan untuk menembak secara full automatic dan burst, tetapi ukurannya sebesar pistol, dan nyaman untuk digenggam menggunakan satu tangan. Mauser Model 712 'SchnellFeuer' tahun 1932 merupakan pistol otomatis pertama yang diterima dan diproduksi massal.
Istilah pistol otomatis adalah terjemahan dari Maschinenpistole, yaitu istilah yang digunakan Jerman untuk menyebut pistol mitraliur. Istilah ini sebenarnya sudah muncul untuk mendeskripsikan pistol semi-otomatis, tetapi baru digunakan untuk pistol full automatic pada tahun 1935.
Perbedaan antara pistol otomatis dengan pistol mitraliur sering samar-samar dan tidak jelas. Biasanya istilah senapan submesin digunakan untuk senjata otomatis yang lebih besar, tetapi sekarang beberapa tipe senjata api bisa masuk ke kedua kategori di atas, antara lain MAC-10 dan seri Uzi.
