Salah satu spesies dari genus ini, Platostoma palustre (sinonim Mesona procumbens dan Mesona chinensis), yang juga dikenal sebagai xiancao (仙草) dalam bahasa Mandarin, sian-chháu dalam bahasa Taiwan serta leung fan cao (涼粉草) dalam bahasa Kanton, adalah penghasil panganan cincau, terutama cincau hitam.
