Plionarctos adalah genus mamalia yang telah punah dari keluarga Ursidae (beruang) endemik Amerika Utara dan Eropa selama Miosen sampai Pleistosen, yang hidup dari ~10.3—3.3 juta tahun yang lalu, hidup sekitar 7 juta tahun.
Indarctos (10.7—9.2 Mya) didahului Plionarctos dalam waktu hanya beberapa ribu tahun dan kontemporer dari beruang tersebut serta berbagi habitat. Plionarctus didahului dan juga kontemporer dengan Tremarctos floridanus (4,9 juta — 11.000 tahun yang lalu) dan berbagi habitat pula.
Plionarctos adalah genus tertua yang diketahui dalam subfamili beruang berwajah pendek (Tremarctinae) endemik Amerika, dan diyakini sebagai leluhur kladnya.
Taksonomi
Plionarctos diberi nama oleh Frick (1926). Jenisnya adalah Plionarctos edensis. Dimasukkan ke Ursidae oleh Frick (1926) dan Carroll (1988); dan ke Tremarctini oleh Hunt (1998).[1][2]

Dua spesimen diperiksa oleh Legendre dan Roth untuk massa tubuh.[3]
- Spesimen 1 diperkirakan memiliki berat 1.655 kg (3.600 pon).
- Spesimen 2 diperkirakan memiliki berat 253 kg (560 pon).
