Porfobilinogen (PBG) adalah senyawa bergugus pirol yang merupakan hasil perantara dalam biosintesis porfirin (seperti heme).[1] Senyawa ini dihasilkan dari aminolevilunat melalui reaksi yang melibatkan enzim porfobilinogen sintase. PBG lalu diubah menjadi hidroksimetil bilana oleh enzim porfobilinogen deaminase (dikenal juga sebagai hidroksimetilbilana sintase).[2]
