Protocryptomonas ellipsoidea adalah spesies dari genus Protocryptomonas. Dideskripsikan oleh botanikus Skvortsov pada tahun 1968, spesies ini dicirikan sebagai sel yang hampir berbentuk elips dengan beberapa granula pati berukuran bervariasi. Nukleus-nya terletak di bagian tengah. Vakuola kontraktil terletak di dekat pangkal flagela. Flagela primer memiliki panjang dua kali lipat dari panjang sel, dan flagela sekunder memiliki panjang 1,5 kali lipat dari panjang sel.[1][2]
Sel P. ellipsoidea tampak memiliki gerakan berputar yang cepat. Spesies ini ditemukan di kolam air dingin dekat kota Harbin selama musim gugur. Persebarannya diperkirakan berada di Manchuria utara, Tiongkok.[1]
