Ratio decidendi
Ratio decidendi (bentuk jamak rationes decidendi) adalah ungkapan dalam bahasa Latin yang berarti "alasan putusan". Dalam bidang hukum, ratio decidendi adalah alasan atau penalaran yang menjadi pokok suatu putusan.[1] Di dalam sistem hukum umum Inggris, berlaku doktrin stare decisis, yaitu putusan pengadilan akan menjadi preseden hukum untuk perkara-perkara selanjutnya. Maka dari itu, putusan pengadilan terdiri dua unsur, yaitu obiter dictum dan ratio decidendi. Ratio decidendi bersifat mengikat secara hukum dan pengadilan dalam perkara-perkara berikutnya terikat oleh preseden yang ditetapkan oleh ratio decidendi, sementara obiter dictum hanya bersifat persuasif.
